Japanese Denim --- Daniel Caesar

This post is going to be a little different. I am writing about a single rather than an entire album, and I have to thank Phil for showing me this artist.

Daniel Caesar's single Japanese Denim is something I cannot stop playing lately. He first released this song in 2016 in his Get Out EP which also featured his song "Get Out" (ft Kali Uchis) hell yes. But he re-released Japenese Denim in 2017 on its own single.

Caesar blends soul, gospel, RnB, and blues and it is absolutely beautiful. I can't get over his sound and his production is phenomenal. Listening to "Japanese Denim" gives me goosebumps. He sings about lost love and bittersweet moments that still seem to linger after they're gone. He states that his blue jeans should last him a lifetime and so should their relationship.

I don't stand in line, I don't pay for clubs, fuck that

But I'll wait for you
I don't like to drink, I don't like to think, fuck that
But I ponder you
I'm bending it over
You're my four leaf clover
I'm so in love, so in love
There's no one above up above
Forever's a long time, yes
My blue jeans

Will last me all my life, oh yes
So should we
I'm spending all this time

Met you at the shop, sun was getting hot, I'm lonely

I'm in the city on my own
Never would've thought you'd be the one, I got a homie
But that's the way it goes
I'm reaching Nirvana
Goodbye sweet Rwanda
High school was never for me
I say let it be, let it be
Forever's a long time
My blue jeans

Will last me all my life, oh yes
So should we
I'm spending all this time
You don't even know me

You don't even know me
I'm hanging from the tree
I'm hanging from the tree

  1. A wonderful description of an outstanding song. It is super important to research a songs lyrics so that yo can understand the song just how the artists intended, but that is the beauty of music because we can interpret it in different ways!
